OFFICIAL VISIT OF THE PRIME MINISTER TO THE ARAB REPUBLIC OF EGYPT 9 - 12 NOVEMBER 2024
Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim will undertake an official visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt from 9 to 12 November 2024, at the invitation of President of Egypt Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. The Prime Minister will be accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato' Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan; Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Utama Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz; Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Tuan Haji Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir; and Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Dato' Sri Huang Tiong Sii.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will be received by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in an Official Welcoming Ceremony, followed by a bilateral meeting. The leaders' discussions will revolve around efforts to strengthen bilateral relations through intensification of collaborations in trade and investment, defence and security, tourism, education and Islamic affairs, as well as the exploration of new cooperative endeavours, such as in the Halal industry, health, renewable energy and water, natural resources and environmental sustainability. Both leaders are also expected to discuss and exchange perspectives on regional and international issues of mutual concern, particularly the conflict in Palestine.
The Prime Minister is also scheduled to deliver a talk at Al-Azhar University, host an engagement session with Egyptian captains of industry and launch the Proton Saga assembly operation in Egypt. The Prime Minister will also take the opportunity to engage with Malaysian students while in Cairo.
The Prime Minister's visit marks a milestone in the warm and brotherly relations between Malaysia and Egypt, paving the way for the diversification and deepening of a mutually-rewarding bilateral cooperation, and lays a stronger foundation to synergise efforts towards addressing regional and global issues of concern.
Egypt is Malaysia's 5 th largest trading partner among African countries in 2023, with a total trade value of RM3.35 billion in Malaysia's favour. For the period of January to September 2024, total trade was valued at RM3 billion, a healthy increase of 21.4 per cent compared with the corresponding period in 2023.
