Congresswoman Torres Calls for House Leadership to Request Boeing President and Chief Executive Officer Calhoun Testify in Congress

Washington, D.C.-- Today, Congresswoman Norma Torres (CA-35) - A senior member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development sent a letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jefferies, House Transportation & Infrastructure Chair Sam Graves, and Ranking Member Rick Larsen to request that Boeing President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dave Calhoun testify regarding Boeing's aircraft safety incidents and address the safety of the flying public.

"I write with significant concerns about Boeing's aircraft and safety practices. On January 5, 2024, there was an incident with Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 that occurred on a Boeing aircraft, whose destination was Ontario International Airport. As a member of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Subcommittee on Appropriations, I am deeply troubled by Boeing's ongoing aircraft safety issues and urge you to seek answers from Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr. David L. Calhoun," said Congresswoman Norma Torres.

"The flying public in America has expressed a lack of confidence in Boeing's aircraft, which will affect the many millions of individuals who work in jobs connected to our aviation industry. It is my hope that House Leadership and Leadership of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee call on Mr. Calhoun to testify before Congress to shed light on the unanswered questions and concerns surrounding Boeing, their safety practices, and the safety of the flying public while on their aircrafts."

Background: Congresswoman Norma Torres continues to advocate and voice her concerns for Boeing aircraft by:

• Sending a letter to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) expressing concerns about Alaska Airlines Flight 1282, which experienced a mid-flight blowout due to an issue with the Boeing aircraft.
• Leading a letter to Boeing CEO Calhoun expressing concerns about Boeing's recent safety incidents and asking to meet.
