Arrest Made in Homicide on 66th Avenue in South Sacramento

At approximately 9:40 AM on Monday, July 29, 2024, Sacramento County Sheriff Central Division (South Sacramento) Patrol Deputies responded to the 5700 block of 66th Avenue to the report of a shooting.

Deputies arrived on scene and discovered an adult female victim suffering from several gunshot wounds. Fire Department personnel arrived moments later, but unfortunately, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Sheriff's Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene, began their investigation, interviewed witnesses, and began to gather evidence. Based on their investigation, Detectives learned that the suspect, 66-year-old Leslie Weikert, was a tenant at the apartment complex where the incident occurred. Weikert had a dispute with the victim, an employee of the same apartment complex, when he shot her multiple times and fled the scene.

Detectives from the Sheriff's Major Crimes Bureau located Weikert later that evening and took him into custody without incident. He was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for PC 187 - Murder, where he remains ineligible for bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 31.
