City of St. Louis to Host SLUP Scoop #3 Release Party, Sharing the Latest on the Strategic Land Use Plan Update

Tonight, at Third Degree Glass Factory on Delmar Boulevard, the City of St. Louis Planning and Urban Design Agency will host a release party for the third edition of the 'SLUP Scoop,' the agency's newsletter focused on informing and educating the public about the process to update the Strategic Land Use Plan (SLUP) of the St. Louis Comprehensive Plan. After more than a year of engagement and analysis, the plan is now coming together, and the team will soon be drafting the final document. Tonight's open-house style event is open to the public and will share progress on the plan and new land use designations, and will have a detailed map on display.

"Public engagement is crucial to so much of the work our City departments are doing to plan for the future of St. Louis City," said Mayor Tishaura O. Jones. "The SLUP Scoop is just one of the many ways that our excellent Planning and Design Agency is ensuring that people are central to this process. We hope to see you there tonight!"

The SLUP is the City's long-range vision for land use. Initially adopted by the Planning Commission in 2005 and periodically amended, this plan sets out a vision for how we can best use the land in our city, block by block, to guide future development. It is the foundation for land use policy decisions the city makes, like zoning and more. The current process is a full rework of the plan, ensuring that the updated SLUP matches community values and current opportunities. It is expected to be adopted in early 2025.

"This has been an important undertaking for us," said Don Roe, Executive Director of the Planning and Urban Design Agency. "What we've heard in the community is that it's time for St. Louis to double down on walkability as part of equitable growth, and lean in on the urbanism this city was built for. This plan does just that."

Registration is not required to attend, but residents are encouraged to register before the event for planning purposes at slup-stl.com/get-involved. The newsletter can also be viewed online at slup-stl.com/slup-scoop.

For those who can't join tonight, a Virtual Info Session will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 6 p.m. on Zoom. This session will include similar content to what will be available at the in-person party.
