Working with Digimarc to implement the Digimarc® Barcode, retailers can be confident that Digimarc-enabled packaging delivers accurate product information using the Global Trade Identifier Number ® (GTIN®) to uniquely identify products in the supply chain. Introduced earlier this year, Digimarc Barcode brings new benefits to retailers, including a dramatic reduction of in-store checkout time and the ability to engage shoppers through their mobile devices - at home, on the go and in the store.

Based on Digimarc's patented digital watermarking technology, Digimarc Barcode is an imperceptible pattern that is repeatedly encoded into the images and graphics of printed consumer packaged goods. This unique approach makes the entire package scannable - not just the traditional UPC symbol. The Digimarc Barcode enables much faster scanning by point-of-sale devices, while making it easier for consumers with smartphones to reliably identify products, giving retailers and brands opportunities to enhance convenience and engagement for mobile-enabled shoppers.
