The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board's (PLCB) Bureau of Alcohol Education's "Reducing Underage Drinking and Dangerous Drinking Grant;" has awarded Commonwealth University a two-year grant of $50,000 to reduce underage drinking.

The grant, with a budget of $25,000 each year, will support activities on the Bloomsburg, Lock Haven and Mansfield campuses. The funds will support student employment, student employee training, and programming, such as the university's annual mental health fair, Fresh Check Day, held each spring.

"The student employment budget is a critical component to the university's strategy to reduce underage and dangerous drinking within our community. Relationship building is the key to success and having a large and well-trained student staff who are available to interact with students on all campuses is vital," said Kristi Hammaker, director for Student Well-Being and Health Promotion. "We plan to include all hired students in the NASPA (National Association of Student Personnel Administrators) Certified Peer Education training to heighten and broaden awareness and increase student leadership effectiveness of alcohol prevention work."
