20 Years since Privatisation

Continuity, agility and change… #MaltaFreeportTerminals is today proud to celebrate its 20th anniversary as a privatised entity. During this period, the Freeport has been transformed from a modest port into a state-of-the-art transhipment facility that has handled more than 51 million TEU containers, received 39,000 ship calls, and invested almost €400 million in infrastructural development, equipment, digitalisation, and personnel development. Malta Freeport is today one of the few Mediterranean ports capable of handling the world's largest megamax ships with a capacity in excess of 23,000 TEU containers. The environment has also been high on our agenda: we have significantly reduced noise, emissions, and light pollution at the facility and taken steps to ensure the surrounding sea remains clean. We also support our local community in various ways, from sports clubs, to cancer care, to clean-up initiatives.

Malta Freeport Terminals CEO Alex Montebello said: "The past two decades has been a momentous journey for Malta Freeport. But we will not stop here. We will continue to invest in our drive forward to deliver a quality service to our clients. None of this would be possible without the unerring support of our shareholders - Terminal Link (made up of CMA CGM and CMPort) and Yilport Holding Inc. - and the commitment and dedication of our employees and port workers. We also thank our loyal clients for choosing us as their Mediterranean hub."
