Financial Times Names Teresa Hill the Most Innovative Practitioner of the Year for Leadership in Data Centers and Decarbonization

Financial Times has named Teresa Hill the 2024 Most Innovative Practitioner of the Year for her work architecting first-of-kind agreements shaping the decarbonization and data center markets globally.

"Orrick's Teresa Hill stood out to judges for her long-standing, far-sighted work on new kinds of clean energy deals. As well as helping tech companies with their soaring demands for power, her initiatives show the way forward for a just energy transition," wrote Financial Times.

As demand for carbon-free energy generation rises to support AI-driven data center growth, Teresa and her team have negotiated the largest-ever single corporate PPA and the largest procurement of carbon removal credits to date, as well as deals involving the most innovative new energy assets.

FT also recognized Orrick in this year's Innovative Lawyers report for:

  • Helping Microsoft secure 10.5GW+ of new data center renewable energy capacity - the largest-ever in a single deal - led by Teresa and Lana Le Hir.
  • Supporting Chief Information Security Officers in navigating the new enforcement environment - led by Aravind Swaminathan.
  • Educating our own team and the corporate legal community in safe and effective GenAI adoption, led by Wendy Butler Curtis, Kate Orr and Vedika Mehera. This has included GenAI Labs and AI training for 35+ legal departments.

This is Orrick's ninth consecutive year ranked among the top 10 firms for innovation by Financial Times - eight of them in the top three.
