Date Announced for the Inquest into the Death of Pedro Rego

Dr. Kenneth Peckham, Regional Supervising Coroner, Central Region, Central West Office,announced today that a date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of Pedro Rego.

Mr. Rego, 44 years old, died in hospital on October 31, 2017, following an interaction with officers from the Peel Regional Police. An inquest into his death is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Rego's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.

The inquest is expected to last three days and hear from approximately five witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, October 7, 2024. Dr. David Creery will be the presiding officer and Jai Dhar will be the inquest counsel.
