Caltrans To Begin Project to Rehabilitate Culverts On State Route 49

Published: Jun 24, 2024

Tuolumne County -The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will soon begin workto rehabilitate culverts on State Route 49 (Stockton Street) in and around Sonora.

Culverts are drainage systems underneath California's Highway System that safely channel stormwater to prevent roadbed erosion and limit the risk of flooding. This project will extend the life of culverts between the SR-49/SR-108 interchange and Forest Road by installing cured-in-place pipe liners.

Work is scheduled to begin July 7, 2024, and is expected to conclude in August.

During work, one-way traffic control with estimated 10-minute delays will occur Sundays through Thursdays from 8:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. The California Highway Patrol will be on-site during construction to enforce a 25-mph work-zone speed limit.

Lamassu Utility Services, Inc. of Loomis, CA. will perform this estimated $135,576 project.

Schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, equipment and materials availability, and other construction-related issues.
