GBI Investigates Homicide in Jackson, GA

Jackson, Butts County, GA (August 2, 2024) - At the request of the Butts County Sheriff's Office, GBI agents are investigating the death of Jason Maughon, age 44, of Jackson, GA.

On July 14, 2024, at about 1:00 a.m., Butts County Sheriff's deputies responded to the 200 block of Peoples Road in Jackson, Georgia. Preliminary information indicates that a shooting occurred at the location during an event. Maughon was shot and taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Maughon's body was later taken to the GBI Medical Examiner's Office in Decatur, Georgia, for an autopsy.

Two other people were shot and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

No arrests have been made at this time.
