DuBOIS, Pa. - Community is a Penn State core value and Lorna Hardin, assistant teaching professor of business at Penn State DuBois, will be providing free tax-filing assistance to the local community during the spring semester via the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

Hardin is currently seeking volunteers to help with the VITA site at Penn State DuBois between Feb. 3 and April 15, 2025. The program will have appointments available to the community on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from noon to 5:00 pm.

No experience is necessary to become a VITA volunteer and free, specialized training is provided by the IRS, with classes starting the week of Oct. 27.

VITA sites prepare millions of tax returns each year for low- to moderate-income taxpayers at no cost. The free tax program serves populations such as rural taxpayers, limited English speakers, students and senior citizens. Each year thousands of volunteers help their community and gain invaluable professional experience.
