Teen Arrested for Attempted Robbery in Queen Anne, Released from Juvenile Detention by Mistake

Seattle police officers arrested a teen for attempted robbery in West Queen Anne, and he was released from King County juvenile detention by mistake this weekend.

On September 27th at 4:05 p.m., patrol officers responded to a robbery in the 1900 block of First Avenue West. They developed probable cause to make an arrest after speaking to the victim and reviewing video surveillance footage of the incident.

Police interviewed the 12-year-old victim and determined that a 13-year-old boy attempted to rob him of his bicycle with a knife on the grounds of a local middle school.

While investigating, police located the suspect's residence. A multilingual officer fluent in Brazilian Portuguese responded to translate.

Officers arrested and booked the teen into juvenile detention at the Judge Patricia H. Clark Children & Family Justice Center (CFJC) for investigation of Robbery.

The next day, September 28th at 5:31 p.m., police were notified by staff at CFJC that they released the young man from juvenile detention by mistake. Without an arrest warrant issued by the court, officers were unable to take the suspect back into custody.

Detectives with the Robbery Unit have been assigned to this case.
