FedEx Launches Two New Flights between China and the United States

Shanghai, China, June 28, 2024 - Federal Express Corporation, one of the world's largest express transportation companies, has recently launched two new flights to the United States from Qingdao and Xiamen, China. The company also plans to establish international gateway facilities at each location to enhance operational and clearance efficiency, responding to the increasing business and trade demands of local customers. With these new flights, FedEx continues to optimize its network in China, providing flexible and efficient services to Chinese customers.

As the company's first-ever international cargo flights out of Qingdao and Xiamen, each flight will initially operate once a week. The flight departing from Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport connects major U.S. hubs via Osaka, Japan - improving the transit time of outbound parcels and freight shipments from Qingdao and Shandong Province to North America by one day. The flight departing from Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport stops in Incheon, South Korea before arriving in Anchorage, Alaska. U.S. Parcels and freight shipments from Xiamen and Fujian Province to North America will also benefit from the increased shipping capacity and faster transit times.

"The launch of these two new cargo flights is a proactive move by FedEx to meet the growing demand of China's foreign trade and deepen cooperation with the local market," said Poh-Yian Koh, Vice President, Operations, FedEx China. "Over the past 40 years of our presence in China, FedEx has been committed to growing with the market and meeting its customers' robust import and export needs. We continually expand our local network to create a flexible, efficient and intelligent supply chain. The new flights will effectively enhance connectivity between China's major second- and third-tier cities and the Asia-Pacific and North American markets, enabling local enterprises to better connect to the global market ."

China's foreign trade has been steadily improving, with Qingdao and Xiamen both showing advantages and growth potential in this sector. The country's total imports and exports reached RMB 17.5 trillion in the first five months of 2024, marking a 6.3 percent year-on-year increase1. In the first five months of this year, Qingdao's total imports and exports amounted to RMB 356.18 billion, and its volume to the U.S. grew by 2.8%2. In the first four months of this year, Xiamen's total imports and exports totalled RMB 300.77 billion, with the volume to the U.S. rising by 18.6%3. The new flights are expected to further boost the foreign trade development of these two cities.

Since entering the China market in 1984, FedEx has continuously optimized its air network and operational facilities to meet the exponentially growing demand for cargo transportation. FedEx currently operates more than 300 weekly flights in and out of mainland China. The company connects Chinese customers to its extensive global network through its four major international gateways in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, facilitating connectivity for global trade exchange.
