Metro to Provide Free Rides to Active, Reserve, and Retired Military Members on July 20

Free rides support the Hamilton County Veterans Appreciation Day.

Cincinnati-
In support of the Hamilton County Veterans Appreciation Day on July 20th at Great American Ball Park, Metro is proud to offer fare-free rides on Metro's fixed routes and Access paratransit for Veterans and active- or reserve-duty military members.

To ride fare-free, active, reserve, and retired military members must show valid proof of military or Veteran status upon boarding the bus, including:

  • U.S. Department of Defense-issued military ID card
  • Veterans Affairs ID card
  • State-issued driver's license with veteran designation
  • Metro's MVP program ID card
"We are proud to find new ways to continue to support Veterans in our community," said Brandy Jones, Chief Communications and Marketing Officer of Metro. "By offering fare-free rides on Veterans Appreciation Day, we hope to make it easier for Vets to participate in the events and activities planned throughout the day."

The Hamilton County Veterans Appreciation Day will offer free food, resources, and activities for the whole family. This free event honors our thriving Hamilton County Veteran community while also providing them with opportunities to connect with direct services and enjoy a day of celebration and camaraderie.

Commission President Alicia Reece created and introduced the idea of having the event totally devoted to those who served in our military so that thousands of Veterans and their families can better connect to Veterans' services: "Our veterans have served our country and its important that we celebrate them and provide them the support that veterans and their families need."

Metro is committed to serving the veteran community and removing transportation as a barrier. The Metro Veterans Program (MVP) is a discount program for military Veterans and active-duty military personnel. Once approved, eligible participants will receive an MVP Card. This "tap and show" smart card allows participants to ride Metro for half fare. More information about the MVP program can be found here.

Beyond providing transportation services. Metro actively seeks opportunities to support local initiatives that benefit the residents of the Cincinnati region. By partnering with the Hamilton County Veterans Service Commission for Veterans Appreciation Day, Metro aims to demonstrate its dedication to the well-being and welfare of veterans and military members.
