CFA, Allies Ask Target to Drop Toys Promoting Alcohol Use

CFA joined with non-profit advocacy partners Alcohol Justice and Fairplay in the following letter to the Target Corporation asking the corporate retailer to revisit its decision to stock and sell MGA Miniverse "Happy Hour" balls, an alcohol-themed line of a popular kids' collectibles. The toy balls contain miniature, moldable, dollhouse-type cocktail glasses, to be filled with resin "cocktails." The product contains a prominent choking hazard disclaimer, warning that it is "not for children under 3 yrs," along with a less visible statement that the product is "not suitable for kids." Researchers have documented how toys such as candy cigarettes can prime children to seek addictive substances. The letter argues that the miniature cocktail toy runs a similar risk and should not be peddled to Target shoppers.
