13-Year Old Charged with Terroristic Threats in Brooks County

Quitman, Georgia, September 6, 2024: The GBI has charged a thirteen-year-old Brooks County minor with felony terroristic threats and computer trespass as a result of an investigation into threats made against the Brooks County Middle School.

On September 5, 2024, the Brooks County Schools Police Department requested GBI assistance after a text message was discovered on an internal messaging platform used by teachers and students that contained a threat to commit a shooting on school campus. GBI agents and school police began investigating the threat and identified the juvenile who was responsible. He was interviewed and claimed to have made the post as a prank. It was determined the juvenile was attending classes virtually and had not been present on any school property. After consulting with the Department of Juvenile Justice, the juvenile was detained and transported to a Regional Youth Detention Center.

This case is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the GBI Thomasville Office at 229-225-4090.
