Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. Jared Huffman (CA-02), announced that he was unanimously re-elected as Vice Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC), joining the new leadership to oversee a Caucus of nearly 100 members with the addition of 9 freshmen from diverse districts across the nation. Huffman has been an active member of the CPC since coming to Congress 12 years ago. Huffman has spent his 30-year tenure as a public servant fighting for progressive values and uplifting working class, underserved and indigenous voices.
"I'm honored to have the trust and confidence of my CPC colleagues in continuing to serve in this leadership position, and to be part of CPC's new, dynamic leadership team as we fight to defend progressive values and priorities," said Rep. Huffman. "I was honored to work closely with outgoing CPC Chair Pramilla Jayapal and now look forward to working with Chair Greg Casar and the new CPC leadership team. Now more than ever, progressives must be unified and prepared as we brace for the impending storm of a second Trump administration. The CPC will be a critical bulwark against Trump's extreme Project 2025 agenda, while also serving as a beacon of good policies that put working people first, champion environmental justice, and build an equitable future for all."
Huffman is also currently running to serve as Ranking Member of the House Natural Resources Committee. While he is proud to have broad support from every region and across the political spectrum of the Democratic caucus, there should be no question that Huffman is also proud of his proven record of leadership on progressive values, including serving in multiple leadership roles within the CPC, and having a longtime voting record to back up his progressive credentials. In the Ranking Member race, where he is running against another excellent progressive and a respected member of the CPC, Huffman has a slightly higher "overall" progressive voting score for both lifetime and the current Congress (97.58 to 96.36, and 96.28 to 95.49 respectively) according to the progressive watchdog group Progressive Punch. Significantly, Progressive Punch used Huffman as one of the reliably progressive House "Control Group" members to contrast with the Republican Caucus in developing and calculating its progressive scores for the current Congress. Another progressive accountability project, Progressive Scorecard, gives Huffman an "A" rating, calling him "a credit to his profession." They go on to explain that "Huffman is not just a progressive on climate change policy. He is a vocal supporter of Medicare for All, debt-free college, abolishing the death penalty, and legalizing marijuana. Huffman's voting record is equally impressive, backing most progressive initiatives and getting a Vote Score in the 90s. Additionally, Huffman is a founder and co-chair of the Freethought Caucus, which advocates for protecting secular government institutions from right-wing assault."
Rep. Huffman is looking forward to serving alongside several distinguished colleagues in Congressional Progressive Caucus leadership, and congratulates each of them on their recent elections by members of the CPC:
