Ask the Intern: MJ Lee at Atlantic Records

For anybody hoping for a career in the music industry, it's hard to imagine a better training ground than an internship with a record label that represents Charli XCX, Cardi B and Ed Sheeran. Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music student Morgan "MJ" Lee (Tisch '27) got to live that particular dream this summer through the Warner Music Group Emerging Talent Associate Program. As part of the marketing team for Pop/Rock acts, MJ gained valuable experience working on large-scale social media campaigns and major networking opportunities-plus a major boost to her record collection.

"I've been able to meet so many people who have experience in all different kinds of labels and entertainment companies," she says. "I really like that there's freedom to meet people at all different levels of the company and across departments."

DAILY ROUTINE: I help my manager with different artist rollouts. I create content for various artists' social media, handle scheduling, and spend time brainstorming different ideas for the campaigns currently running. I also research new artists and track weekly streaming data.

NETWORKING: I've had the opportunity to talk to and work with many different people across departments at Atlantic Records. Everyone has varied experiences in entertainment and at different labels.

BEST PERK: Free coffee and free vinyl!

DREAM JOB INSPO: Probably something like La La Land minus the ending. My dream job would be working on my own music or being a creative director for other artists.
