TRAFFIC FATALITY - PACIFIC COAST HIGHWAY AND MOLINO AVENUE

Collision Investigation Detectives are investigating a traffic collision that occurred on June 9, 2024, which resulted in the death of a male adult pedestrian.

At approximately 2:26 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Molino Avenue regarding an injury hit-and-run traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The Long Beach Fire Department responded to the scene and determined the pedestrian was deceased.

The preliminary investigation revealed an unknown vehicle was traveling eastbound in the number two lane of Pacific Coast Highway when it struck a pedestrian who was crossing northbound outside of a crosswalk. The collision caused the pedestrian to fall into the number one lane of eastbound Pacific Coast Highway at the intersection of Molino Avenue. That vehicle fled the scene before officers arrived.

The pedestrian was struck again by a 2017 Kia Sportage while lying in the number one lane of eastbound Pacific Coast Highway. The driver of the Kia Sportage pulled over and called 9-1-1.

While the driver was waiting for police to respond, they observed the pedestrian being struck again by a white truck and dragged east of Molino Avenue. The truck fled the scene ahead of officers' arrival. The driver of Kia Sportage stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

The Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner responded to the scene, and the pedestrian's identity is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
