Gulf Islands National Seashore opens the Mississippi District following Hurricane Francine

GULF BREEZE, Fla. - Gulf Islands National Seashore will reopen the entire Mississippi District beginning September 14 following Hurricane Francine.

Fort Massachusetts on Ship Island is projected to remain closed and inaccessible to visitors until approximately September 21 due to severe flooding.

Commercial services to Ship Island via Ship Island Excursions will return on Saturday, September 14 on the normal schedule.

The Mississippi District includes the Davis Bayou Area, Davis Bayou Campground, and National Park Service-managed areas of the barrier islands in Mississippi.
