Advancing SDGs 1, 2, 13, 16, and 17: Daily Insights and Contributions from FAO at HLPF 2024

Convened at the UN Headquarters in New York, the 2024 High-level Political Forum (HLPF) starts this Monday, 8 July and lasts until Wednesday, 17 July, with the ECOSOC High-Level Segment going on for an additional day on Thursday, 18 July. Preparing for the critical review of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 Zero Hunger this year, FAO has been contributing to this process providing updated data and analysis and co-organizing and participating in Expert Group Meetings (EGM).

As we get closer to the 2030 deadline, there is more urgency than ever before to focus and work better together to address the multiple crises and achieve the SDGs. Agrifood systems transformation has been identified as a critical synergetic SDG accelerator and one of the six key pathways towards achieving all 17 SDGs. Fostering efforts and investments in governance, institutions and capabilities for this needed transformation can accelerate the achievement of the SDGs and contribute to more peaceful, just and inclusive societies.

During the HLPF, FAO, together with UN DESA and the European Union, will host a side-event on 10 July to follow up and build upon the insights and recommendations from the EGM to catalyze action towards SDG 2. The event will feature distinguished panelists who will share experiences and explore the co-creation of innovative solutions to accelerate progress towards Zero Hunger. You can register for the event here.

On 12 July, the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub, the Committee on World Food Security (CFS), the European Union, and South Africa will convene a side event focusing on the "The catalytic role of policy integration and inclusive governance for food systems transformation and SDG acceleration". You can register for the event here.

In the lead up to the official launch of The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI) report on 24 July in Brazil, FAO and its co-publishing partners will present key messages from the report during a Special Event in the margins of the HLPF on 15 July, focused on the SOFI 2024 theme, "Financing to End Hunger, Food Insecurity and Malnutrition in All its Forms." You can register for the event here.

FAO will also be supporting and participating in more side-events and Special Events during the HLPF. Learn about all of our activities on our event page.
