Dieppe Seeks Names of Women Who Have Marked Its History

DIEPPE, NB - The City of Dieppe, in collaboration with the Groupe de recherche sur les archives et les femmes de l'Université de Moncton (GRAFA), is seeking the names of pioneering women to name eight of its trails.

The initiative is part of the Women Trailblazers Bank project, which aims to showcase the city's women through a heritage tour and a place-name bank. The project will honour women who have distinguished themselves or worked behind the scenes and highlight those who have played a part in local heritage.

A first for New Brunswick, the project will introduce residents and visitors to the history of women in the city through an outdoor heritage route for tourists featuring trail names accompanied by interactive posters that tell the stories of these local francophone women.

The project also includes gender-diverse individuals who currently identify, or have identified in the past, as women.

Interested parties have until 4 p.m. local time on Monday, September 9, to submit names in of the following categories (one name per form):

  • Politics
  • Sports
  • Environment
  • Canadian Armed Forces
  • Intercultural relations
  • Creative pursuits
  • Health
  • Entrepreneurship
