Award-Winning Professor Leads Study Abroad Course in Madrid

This Spring Break, Seton Hall students have the unique opportunity to study Organizational Behavior in Madrid, Spain, under the guidance of former Professor and Dean Emerita Karen Boroff, Ph.D. The course, BMGT 2503, will be held at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), allowing students to immerse themselves in Spanish culture while completing a core business requirement.

Students will attend classes from March 3-7, 2025, with additional time to explore Madrid's rich history and vibrant culture. The program kicks off with an informal dinner on March 2, offering students a chance to connect with peers and Boroff before diving into an intensive week of learning.

Boroff will already be in Madrid as she has received a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Award for the 2025 spring semester from the U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Her Fulbright project is "Leadership, Creativity, Collaborations: Transforming Concepts into Practice." UPM is a partner school with the Management Center Innsbruch, Austria, where Boroff served as a visiting professor and Seton Hall has a thriving relationship.

In addition, Boroff recently won the 2023 Innovation in Teaching Award from the Middle Atlantic Association of Colleges of Business Administration for her "Active Learning Project" (ALP), which transforms classroom theory into practical, real-world applications. Her innovative approach, which earned accolades for integrating experiential learning with academic theory, will be a cornerstone of the Madrid course.

"The Active Learning Project in my Organizational Behavior course serves as a practical and transformative learning experience that goes beyond classroom theory, enabling students to apply their knowledge in real-world settings and develop essential skills for their future careers," said Boroff.

"Boroff's teaching excellence extends beyond Seton Hall. She has also been recognized by the United States Military Academy at West Point, where she has taught cadets and mentored faculty, as the Distinguished Alumni Faculty of 2021," said Joyce Strawser, Ph.D., dean of the Stillman School of Business. "Her experiential learning methods have consistently empowered students to apply their knowledge in dynamic and practical ways."

This study abroad course not only promises academic enrichment but also personal growth, as students will navigate a new cultural landscape while honing their organizational behavior skills.

Interested students should contact Karen Boroff, then register during the Fall 2024 enrollment period for Spring 2025.
