Rep. Watson Coleman Secures Over $1.2 Million for Mt. Carmel Guild Rehabilitation Project in Trenton

Ewing, NJ (July 2, 2024) - Today, Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) announced $1,247,000 in federal funds to support the Mount Carmel Guild Rehabilitation project.

The Guild provides the Trenton community with food pantry services, home health nursing and the collection and distribution of holiday items during Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. The allocated funding will be put towards rehabilitating three buildings that are each over 165 years old, and have housed the Guild for more than a century.

Rep. Watson Coleman was joined by Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora, Mt. Carmel Guild Executive Director Mary Inkrot, and Mt. Carmel Director of External Affairs Daren Miller, for a press conference at the Mt. Carmel Guild headquarters in Trenton.

"As New Jersey's lone appropriator in Congress, I'm proud to have secured over $1.2 million for the Mt. Carmel rehabilitation project," said Rep. Watson Coleman. "The services the guild provides for our community are essential. Now, staff and volunteers will be able to continue their important work of addressing food insecurity, providing emergency medical assistance and preventing homelessness with newly refurbished facilities."

"Mount Carmel Guild of Trenton's Community Project funding secured by Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman is 100% allocated for the rehabilitation of our buildings which are over 150 years old," said Mt. Carmel Guild Executive Director Mary Inkrot. "Our three buildings have served as the 'home base' for the Guild's services to the community for over 104 years and the planned repairs will ensure our ability to maintain our location in the heart of the city of Trenton and allow us to continue to help our neighbors in need for many decades to come."

In addition to the Mount Carmel Guild Rehabilitation project, 12 other organizations and projects in New Jersey's 12th District will receive federal community project funding to be put towards infrastructure improvements, recreation, youth programs, combating hunger initiatives, and more.
