AG Kobach calls on Congress to pass the SAVE Act

TOPEKA - (July 16, 2024) - Attorney General Kris Kobach joined a 22-state coalition of state attorneys general in a letter co-led by Iowa and Indiana calling on Congressional Leaders to support and pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility ("SAVE") Act. This commonsense bill will strengthen our electoral process by upholding the rule of law and prohibiting those aliens who are ineligible to vote from doing so. "Congress should act immediately to pass the SAVE Act to secure our elections," Kobach said. "When I was Secretary of State, I fought to require proof of citizenship for voting. With illegal aliens flooding across our border every month, this simple step to secure our elections is long overdue.""President Biden's terrible immigration policies have created the worst border crisis in American history," the letter states. "A congressional report recently concluded that the Biden Administration released 5.3 million illegal immigrants into the United States through 'parole' programs." And now Biden's immigration disaster now threatens the security of America's elections.The SAVE Act protects our elections from illegal immigrants and upholds the rule of law. Under the SAVE Act, individuals must provide proof of citizenship when registering to vote. The SAVE Act also will help States identify and remove illegal immigrants from their voter registration rolls.The SAVE Act garners broad support among all Americans. It is crucial that we protect our elections from illegal voters-some of whom are convicted criminals or potential terrorists-who wish to do us harm by changing the fabric of our Republic. The United States House of Representatives passed the bill last week, but the United States Senate has yet to take action.
