Bronx, NY - NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health today announced that City Council Member Althea Stevens secured $150,000 in city funds to support necessary infrastructure improvements and enhance patient services. This funding will provide medical technological updates for 50 exam rooms at Gotham Health, Morrisania, including vital sign machines that are space-saving, wall-mounted integrated units that include a blood pressure machine, otoscope, ophthalmoscope, pulse rate, pulse oximeter, and thermometer, all integrated into the Electronic Medical Record system. This will not only speed up appointments, but also make them more convenient, providing patients with a smoother and more personalized experience.

"On behalf of NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health and the community, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Council Member Althea Stevens for her support in securing $150,000 in funding for critical infrastructure improvements," said NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health CEO Michelle Lewis. "The generous funding will strengthen our commitment to providing high quality and patient-centered care to patients who deserve access to state-of-the-art comprehensive care."

"Far too often, we hear about how the Bronx ranks 62nd as the most unhealthy place, but we must shift the narrative by making tangible investments where they are needed the most. I'm proud to have secured $150,000 for technology upgrades for 50 patient service rooms, to continue to provide access to high-quality primary care for Bronx residents." New York City Council Member Althea Stevens explains, "I'm honored to continue working with Gotham Health, Morrisania, as the medical field is constantly evolving, and partnerships like this ensure that we stay ahead of the curve and build a healthier future for our community."

"We are deeply grateful to Council Member Althea Stevens for awarding this capital funding to upgrade our infrastructure, and expand our services for our community," said NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health, Chief of Infrastructure and Support Services Officer, Roman Ryniewski. "This financial support is crucial to our mission of continually improving medical services and facilities to better serve our patients."

Earlier this year, Gotham Health, Morrisania's Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program received the prestigious USDA Gold Breastfeeding Award of Excellence 2023 for providing exemplary breastfeeding promotion and support to WIC families. The facility also announced the installation of a new bone density scanner for assessing the risk of bone fracture and bone loss (osteoporosis) and a state-of-the-art 3D mammogram machine, which offers cutting-edge breast cancer detection while ensuring a more comfortable experience for patients. Last year, the health system unveiled a new mural, Each and Every Day: Simple but Full of Love by artist Yukiko Izumi, on the exterior of Gotham Health, Morrisania as part of the Community Mural Program run by the health system's Arts in Medicine department.
