Keep Mesquite Beautiful awards grants to local schools

Keep Mesquite Beautiful, Inc. (KMB) recently awarded grants to six local schools to promote environmental education and hands-on experiences.

The following grants were awarded:

  • Horn High School - $1,000
  • Pioneer Technology & Art Academy (Mesquite Campus) - $750
  • Gray Elementary School - $500
  • Price Elementary School - $500
  • Beasley Elementary School - $375
  • Seabourn Elementary School - $375

Green Teams, a KMB program on school campuses, are groups of students who are engaged in environmental activities including recycling, litter prevention, beautification and sustainable practices such as conservation and gardening.

KMB Executive Director Jonathan Chitty said that Green Teams teach important life skills that lead to healthier individuals, community and environment.

"Students are essential in teaching their peers about the importance of recycling and environmental protection," he said. "Through Green Teams, we help students see how their actions, even something as simple as using the correct trash bin, create lasting impacts on their communities and the environment. We can't wait to see the positive changes these grants will bring to each school."
