WM Symposia Inc., the nonprofit organization that hosts the annual Waste Management Conference in Phoenix, Ariz., has launched a new initiative dedicated to supporting educators in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
"The WM STEM Educators' Council will provide its members with a venue to network, share best practices, and access subject-matter experts, teaching materials, and classroom enhancements," the organization said.
According to WM Symposia, council members will also be able to participate in quarterly virtual events such as industry-specific workshops and professional development opportunities, as well as attend the annual conference, which has several sessions targeted specifically for educators.
More details: A call for nominations to the WM STEM Educators' Council will be issued this fall. The inaugural group will be announced at WM2025, to be held March 9-13, 2025, at the Phoenix Convention Center.
Initial funding for the council was provided by a $10,000 grant from Fluor with matching funds from WM Symposia's STEM program, which was initiated in 2019. Membership is open to U.S. and non-U.S. educators in K-12 as well as higher education, in both traditional and nontraditional environments.
