Seeking Participants for a Fall Management Study

The Disability, Participation, and Quality of Life (DPQoL) Research Laboratory at the University of Illinois team is developing a wearable fall detection device to help people get assistance when help is needed after a fall and track the frequency of falls.

We will send participants the wearable fall detection device (a smartwatch) and schedule a series of Zoom calls to help participants set up the device and check in on use during the duration of the study.

Participants will be asked to wear the fall detection device (a smartwatch) for 12-weeks while performing daily activities. Participants will be compensated $60 at the end of the 12-week period.

To participate in this study, you must:

  • Be 18 years old or older
  • Use a wheelchair (power or manual) or scooter for at least 75% of your mobility
  • Have used a wheelchair or scooter for at least 1 year
  • Experience at least 1 fall in the last 3 years
  • Be able to communicate with research staff via video conferencing software or telephone

If you are interested in participating in this study, please contact our team via email: [email protected]

This study is funded by the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR)
