Mayor McLean, City Council Celebrate Youth Climate Action Projects

August 14, 2024

The City of Boise will soon see a wave of youth-led climate action projects supporting the city's climate goals. Seventeen teams led by Boise teens and young adults submitted project proposals to the Youth Climate Action Fund, ranging from planting shade trees and pollinator gardens to installing e-bike charging stations and starting school compost and recycling programs. All projects were approved for funding in a presentation to City Council on Tuesday night, enabling youth teams and their sponsor organizations to kick off their projects this fall.

"I am thrilled to see the incredible response from our community's youth and can't wait to see these projects get underway," says Mayor McLean. "In partnership with Bloomberg Philanthropies, we are investing in climate solutions led by new climate leaders in our community who are best positioned to make positive climate impacts now and into the future."

The City of Boise is one of 100 cities chosen to fund local youth-led climate action projects with a $50,000 grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies, in partnership with United Cities and Local Governments and the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University. Thanks to the robust response from local youth and sponsor organizations in this round of funding, the City of Boise Youth Climate Action Fund will be eligible to apply for an additional $100,000 grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies for more youth led climate action projects later this year.
