Historical Presentation: Our Lady of the Angels School fire

In partnership with the Hoffman Estates Commission for Senior Citizens, Historian Jim Gibbons will share a presentation on the Our Lady of the Angels School fire on Friday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. at Village Hall. This program occurs on the 65th anniversary of the fire, which on Dec. 1, 1958, claimed the lives of 92 students and 3 nuns at the school, located in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on Chicago's west side. In the aftermath of the fire, major improvements in standards for school design and fire safety codes were implemented.

Admission is free; light refreshments will be served. Registration is required, please call 847-781-2606 to register. Non-perishable food items for donation to local food pantries will be accepted at the door.
