Publication of the North East Inner City Strategic Plan 2024 - 2027

The Programme Implementation Board (PIB) for the North East Inner City Initiative have today (Friday) published their new Strategic Plan 2024 - 2027.

The North East Inner City Initiative commenced in July 2016, when the Government launched a major initiative for Dublin's North East Inner City to oversee the long-term social and economic regeneration of the area. The Mulvey Report, 'Creating a Brighter Future' in Dublin's North East Inner City, was published in February 2017 with recommendations across several priority areas. This was further supplemented by a Strategic Plan 2020 - 2023.

Towards the end of 2023, the NEIC Programme Implementation Board began a process to develop a new Strategic Plan 2024 - 2027 which would build on the work and momentum of the Mulvey Report and previous NEIC Strategic Plan 2020 - 2023.

The new Strategic Plan being launched today has identified priority actions across five workstreams which will be progressed over the next three years:

• Under the Enhancing Policing workstream, a number of priority actions will be progressed to enhance community safety, reduce crime, and strengthen community confidence in An Garda Síochána.

• Under the Maximising Educational, Training and Employment Opportunities workstream, work will continue to support and promote attendance, participation and retention of young people in formal education and increase and enhance employment opportunities for school leavers, improve adult education levels and reduce unemployment rates in the community.

• Under the Supporting Children, Young People and Family Wellbeing workstream, a number of priority actions will be progressed to improve supports for children, young people and family wellbeing with a focus on parenting.

• Under the Enhancing Community Wellbeing and the Physical Environment workstream, efforts will be focused on improving social cohesion and wellbeing in the community; and enhancing the physical environment, landscape and cleanliness.

• Under the Improving Community Health, Wellbeing and Recovery workstream, actions will be progressed to improve community health, wellbeing and support those living with and recovering from drug use.

In welcoming the publication, Taoiseach Simon Harris said:

The Independent Chairperson of the Programme Implementation Board, Jim Gavin, stated:

"Our new Strategic Plan 2024 - 2027 is ambitious with clear, measurable and time-bound objectives across the areas of enhancing community safety, reducing crime, improving community health & wellbeing, enabling social cohesion and community integration, family wellbeing, enhancing the physical landscape and maximising the power of education and help for young people to enter the workforce."

Minister for Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform, Paschal Donohoe said:
