City Clerk Lisa Canfield elected Vice President of statewide organization

Lisa Canfield, Clarksville City Clerk, has been elected Vice-President of the Tennessee Association of Municipal Clerks and Recorders (TAMCAR).

TAMCAR is a professional organization that is dedicated to the continuing education and advancement of Municipal Clerks. It conducts educational opportunities twice annually in the Spring and Fall.

Completion of these education sessions results in points necessary to receive certification through the Tennessee Secretary of State's office. These sessions also provide points towards certification through the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC).

"I love being a public servant, and serving TAMCAR in my new role as Vice President is just another way to serve my community and state," Ms. Canfield said. "I am honored to have been elected, and look forward to working with the board on my second passion, which is continuing education."

"Lisa Canfield has distinguished herself as a leader in our City government, and now with her colleagues across the state," said Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts.

"Her election as Vice President of this organization is a reflection of her commitment to professional excellence and development. The citizens of our City are well-served by a City Clerk that takes her responsibilities seriously, and is willing to share best practices with her colleagues across the state.," Mayor Pitts said.

The TAMCAR Vice President oversees the functioning of the association's committees, and performs the duties of President in their absence. The Vice President serves two years and then advances to serve as TAMCAR President.

Along with serving as Vice President, Ms. Canfield will continue her role as Chair of the TAMCAR Education Committee.

Ms. Canfield has been serving as Clarksville City Clerk since October 1, 2021. In this local role, she is the direct liaison to the Mayor, City Council and the City Attorney for all legislative matters.

Her primary role is to record actions taken by the City Council and maintain copies of all records, as well as ensure the city code and charter are up to date. To meet legal requirements she posts all public meetings, agendas and minutes, and publishes notices in newsprint as required. Ms. Canfield maintains the City seal and attests the Mayor's signature.
