ALLENTOWN BOROUGH LEAD SERVICE LINE REPLACEMENT

June 21st, 2024 NJWB

NJ I-Bank and NJDEP Helping to Improve New Jersey's Infrastructure, One Project at a Time

The Borough of Allentown recently closed on a $777,972 loan with the NJ Water Bank to replace lead service lines throughout the borough. Many components of the water system are nearing or exceeding their intended design life. Most water mains, gate valves, fire hydrants, etc. were installed prior to 1960, making them at least 60 years old. Proper maintenance and repair of these components are essential to ensure continued service without risk to the environment, economy, or public health. A 1.5-inch galvanized water main on Waker Avenue will be replaced with a 6-inch water main, and lead service lines on Waker Avenue, Broad Street, Hamilton Street, and Church Street will be replaced as well.
