The AP5020 is an ExtremeCloud IQ-managed, premium-tier Wi-Fi 7 access point (AP) that delivers enhanced wireless experiences, faster speeds, and a range of use cases.

The AP5020 is built on Extreme Universal Platform technology, enabling deployment flexibility, and it leverages ExtremeCloud IQ AIOps management to provide improved user experiences. With three 4x4:4 radios, the AP5020 provides high-efficiency, high-performance 802.11be aggregate data rates of up to 20 Gbps in the 6 GHz, 5 GHz, and 2.4 GHz bands.

5 Things to Know About the AP5020

  1. Wi-Fi 7 technology: The AP5020 brings the latest Wi-Fi 7 features to support bandwidth-intensive, latency-sensitive applications to deliver improved user experiences and operational efficiency even in high-density environments.
  2. Software-Defined Radios: The AP5020 features SDR radios that support not only dual 5 GHz and dual 6 GHz capabilities, but also additional programable software modes to best meet the needs of your wireless client population
  3. Dual IoT Radios: Built-in dual IoT radios deliver a lower total cost of ownership and remove complexity by supporting multiple IoT use cases simultaneously while elevating performance. Customers can now support multiple IoT devices such as sensors, electronic shelf labels, lighting, or asset trackers across multiple IoT protocols from a single access point.
  4. PoE Failover: The AP5020 also offers PoE failover to ensure continued connectivity for mission-critical use cases like healthcare, manufacturing, and education environments.
  5. Fortified Security: Full support for the latest WPA3 security standards along with a dedicated 2x2 security sensor that can be paired with Extreme AirDefense to monitor for the latest wireless treats and vulnerabilities. This combination gives customers unmatched flexibility, network security, and wireless performance and integrates with ExtremeCloud Universal ZTNA.

Wi-Fi 7 Capabilities

The AP5020 is on the cutting-edge, and part of that is the new Wi-Fi 7 capabilities. So, let's delve into what makes Wi-Fi 7 a game-changer and how it's poised to revolutionize the way we connect. Some of these features and benefits include:

  • Enhanced User Experience: One method of Multi-Link Operation (MLO) employs link-steering technology across different frequency bands to improve wireless reliability. This is particularly beneficial for latency-sensitive applications like augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and 4K and 8K video streaming.
  • Increased Throughput: Another approach to Multi-Link Operation (MLO) utilizes data aggregation across different bands and channels to boost throughput. Imagine wireless mesh backhaul connections carrying 5 Gbps of data.
  • Flexible Channel Utilization: Preamble puncturing to bypass channels experiencing interference, enabling the use of wider channels even amidst disruptive signals and delivering a more reliable wireless connection.
  • 320 MHz Wide Channels: Realizes significant throughput enhancements with expanded channel bandwidth and additional capacity provided by the 6 GHz spectrum, increasing network speeds and capacity.
  • 4K-QAM Modulation: Achieves 20% higher transmission rates than 1024 QAM, further increasing network speeds.

Whether you're in a crowded stadium or a sprawling college campus, you can count on Wi-Fi 7 to deliver consistent performance when you need it most.

Future-Proofing Your Network in the era of 6 GHz Connectivity

Wi-Fi 7 is a continuation of the 6 GHz Wi-Fi story that began with Wi-Fi 6E, or the era of 6 GHz connectivity and mobility for Wi-Fi. Investing in Wi-Fi 7 isn't just about meeting today's needs-it's about future-proofing your network for years to come with 6 GHz spectrum in addition to the legacy bands of 2.4 and 5 GHz. Wi-Fi 7 builds upon the 6 GHz spectrum and ultimately drives continued improvements in wireless reliability and speed, providing a foundation for future technology and ubiquitous connectivity.

Seamless Integration, Effortless Management

With more users, more devices, more applications, and more threats straining the infrastructure, the AP5020 was engineered to meet those challenges. The AP5020 combines powerful 802.11be Wi-Fi 7 technology, advanced security, and AIOps management capabilities together as an enterprise-class solution that allows you to deploy high-speed, highly secure Wi-Fi into high-density environments.
