Newark, NJ- July 5, 2024 - Mayor Ras J. Baraka announced today that Newark is hosting a BIG3 Basketball League outreach event for city youth tomorrow, Saturday, July 6, at the John F. Kennedy Recreation Center, starting at 1 p.m. The center is located at 211 West Kinney Street, with the entrance on Howard Street.

The BIG3 Basketball League, which plays a professional version of 3-on-3 basketball, is hosting the second Young3 event of the season, where local youth will experience an afternoon of basketball skill development, motivational speaking, meet-and-greets with players and coaches, and Sunday's games at the Prudential Center.

"The BIG3 Basketball League is the most competitive such organization in the country, and we are excited to host it here at the Prudential Center," Mayor Baraka said. "But our gratitude is rooted in the fact that BIG3 cofounders Ice Cube and Jeff Kwatinetz have selected Newark as a city singled out to present this sports event and the special program to inspire and impart life skills to our youth."

Additionally, 200 participants in Newark's Department of Workforce Development's Summer Youth Employment Program are invited to attend the league's fourth week of action at a slate of games in the Prudential Center on Sunday, July 7. Two of those youth gaining photography and videography experience in the Workforce program will shoot the game amidst courtside media professionals. This weekend, Newark's own Isaiah Briscoe and Shakur Juiston will go head to head in the opening game of Trilogy against the 3 Headed Monsters. Also competing with Trilogy is Plainfield native Earl Clark.

While the league is playing in different venues around the United States this year, beginning in 2025, it will transition to a city-based model with initial teams in Los Angeles, Miami, and Houston. Fans can tune in to watch the BIG3 on CBS, Paramount+, and X.

At Saturday's event, BIG3 players Mr. Briscoe, Mr. Juiston, Garlon Green, Gerald Green, and Larry Sanders will be available for interviews on-site.
