RA NA Vice President Hakob Arshakyan receives newly appointed Ambassador of Belgium

On September 23, the RA NA Vice President Hakob Arshakyan received the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Belgium Eric De Muynck.

Welcoming the guest, Hakob Arshakyan congratulated him on assuming the responsible and honourable position of the first resident Ambassador to the Republic of Armenia, wished him successes in the implementation of that important mission.

Regarding the Armenian-Belgian relations, the NA Vice President expressed conviction that the establishment of the Resident Embassy in Armenia is the evidence of that cooperation, which is also important in the context of the RA-EU partnership development.

Hakob Arshakyan underscored with satisfaction the fact that the cooperation between the parliaments is laid on firm bases, the bilateral relations are reflected in the shape of frequent meetings of the presidents, as well as the Friendship Groups.

Among the meetings held within the framework of cooperation between the Friendship Groups, the NA Vice President mentioned the meeting with Peter De Roover during the OSCE PA Autumn Session on November 20, 2023. Peter De Roover was elected President of the House of Representatives of Belgium after the parliamentary elections held in Belgium on June 9.

"The appointment of the political figure in that important position, who showed great support to the Republic of Armenia and the Armenian people and expressed his principled and impartial position on the important issues important for Armenia and the Armenian people is an additional guarantee that we'll register a new progress in the relations of two parliaments," the NA Vice President documented and added that in this context the quick formation of the Friendship Group in Parliament of Belgium is also a valuable indicator.

The NA Vice President thanked the Belgian parliamentarians for visiting Armenia after several days of invading sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia by Azerbaijan in September 2022, documenting that that step was the continuation of the resolutions adopted by the House of Representatives and the Senate after 2020 war.

In his turn the Ambassador valued the efforts aimed at deepening the bilateral relations, especially noted the importance of developing the cooperation, boosting the investments in the economic, information technologies spheres. The Ambassador informed that in October within the framework of the World Congress on Information Technologies (WCIT 2024) a visit of a group of businessmen is scheduled to Armenia from Belgium. They will have meetings with their colleagues of Armenia, studying the investment opportunities.

Hakob Arshakyan also highlighted the cooperation in the abovementioned spheres, presented the practical steps and measures of our country taken in this direction.
