Meet PKUers shining bright at the Paris Olympics

Peking University, July 27, 2024: The 33rd Summer Olympic Games kick-started in Paris on July 26, 2024 (local time). The Chinese delegation made a mark with 716 members, including 405 athletes - 136 male and 269 female - with an average age of 25 years.
Among the Chinese delegation are four outstanding students from Peking University, competing in athletics, basketball, and 3x3 basketball. Additionally, two Peking University faculty members will be contributing to the event as a referee and medical expert.
Let's meet Peking University's Olympic representatives:
Wu Fei: Deputy Director of Peking University's Department of Physical Education, and an international referee since 2012, Wu Fei serves as the deputy referee for the table tennis competition at the Paris Olympics, the only referee hailing from Asia at this Olympics.
Wang Lili: An alumna of Peking University's School of Journalism and Communication, Wang Lili led the Chinese women's three-player basketball team to victory at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. She will be competing again in Paris, bringing her experience and determination.
Xie Zhiyu: A graduate student in the Department of Physical Education, Xie Zhiyu earned a bronze medal in the men's 400 meters hurdles at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games. He will represent China's track and field team in Paris.
Zhang Ning: Currently a postgraduate student in the Department of Physical Education, Zhang Ning has been an MVP in multiple basketball championships. He will compete in the men's three-player basketball team.
Han Xu: A postgraduate student, Han Xu, who previously won gold at the Jakarta Palembang 2018 Asian Games, will represent China's five-player basketball women's team.
Wang Jianxian: A professor and chief physician at Peking University Third Hospital (PUTH), Wang Jianxian specializes in sports injuries and minimally invasive surgery. This will be his fourth Olympic Games, providing medical support to the Chinese delegation.
Message from Wang Jianxian:
"From the Rio Olympics to the Tokyo Olympics to the Beijing Winter Olympics, it is my fourth time accompanying our athletes. It's a responsibility and a mission passed down through generations. As our sportsmen and women strive for glory, we too should strengthen our bodies and minds. PUTH's sports medicine team is committed to your health and success."
With the official schedule released, Peking University's athletes are gearing up to compete against the world's best. Let us all cheer for the athletes from Peking University and support their journey at the Paris Olympics!
