Special issue on transformation and other updates

Dear colleagues and students

In line with the goal towards building a scholarship on transformation, the university has shared a call for papers for a special issue on transformation. Read more about this and other recent developments on campus.

1. Call for papers: Special issue on 'Transformation: A Humanising Praxis'

Authors are invited to submit papers for a special issue on 'Transformation: A Humanising Praxis' in the journal, Transformation in Higher Education. This is a culmination of the University of Cape Town (UCT) Anti-Racism Conversation Series and the Transformation: A Humanising Praxis Think Tank Series, hosted since 2022.

Abstract submissions opened on 15 July and will close on 30 August 2024. The outcome of successful abstracts and invitations to submit full articles will be announced in September 2024.

Authors are invited to consider transformation as both a process and practice that can assist in finding new ways of imagining the academy, shifting us from discourse as an end-in-itself, toward liberatory forms of knowledge sharing and ways of being in the world. In this special issue, authors are invited to engage transformation provocatively around the idea of the human, to inspire a dynamic exchange and solid contestation of ideas.

2. Launch of Designing with AI course

The Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching (CILT) in the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHED) has launched a new short course, Designing with AI. This six-week online course is designed to equip lecturers, teaching staff and learning designers with the skills to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into their teaching, learning and research practices.

As AI continues to revolutionise various industries, the course offers participants an opportunity to stay ahead of the curve. Participants will explore the history and affordances of generative AI, learn to apply AI tools in diverse teaching contexts, and reflect on ethical practices in AI engagement.
