Cape Coral Milton Recovery Update: City Closures, Hygiene Station, and Debris Removal

October 10, 2024

The City of Cape Coral's Emergency Operations Center remains fully activated as Public Works, Fire, and Police crews completed their initial response early this morning. Crews have worked tirelessly to clear debris from roadways and assess damage throughout the city.

Here's what you need to know today:

City Hall Closures:

  • City Hall will be closed tomorrow, Friday, October 11. While most employees will be off, staff with emergency duties will continue their work.
  • City Offices are also closed Monday for the Columbus Day holiday, and City Hall will reopen on Tuesday, October 15, with normal business hours.

Power Outages:

  • Over 80,000 residents are currently without power. The City has extended its support to LCEC to help restore power as quickly as possible. We understand the significant impact this is having on residents, especially those using well water, who are also without water due to non-functional pumps.

Hygiene Station:

  • To assist those without water, the City will be opening a hygiene station offering showers, toilets, fresh water distribution, and laundry services. We will announce the opening date and hours of operation once they are confirmed.

Waste Collection:

  • Waste Pro will resume household trash pick-up on Monday, October 14.
  • However, there will be no collection of recycling, bulk waste, or horticulture next week. Only regular garbage will be collected.

Debris Removal:

  • Curbside pickup of hurricane-related vegetation debris will begin the week of October 21.
  • Residential drop-off sites for debris are expected to open early next week. We will provide further details on dates and locations soon.

Parks and Recreation:

  • All parks and recreation facilities are closed while staff assess damage.

Grocery Stores:

  • Publix has announced plans to open today, providing much-needed access to food and supplies.

Road Safety:

  • We ask that you limit travel to essential trips as several traffic signals are still inoperable. Please stay off the roads today to allow crews to safely address downed power lines, assess traffic signals, and remove debris.
