'If I were Mayor...' Poster and Essay Contest

The City of Buena Park invites all Buena Park students (residents and non-residents) ages 6-18 to participate in our "If I Were Mayor..." contest! This contest is a chance to express your creativity, positively impact our community, and participate in exciting opportunities, including our State of the City event and a special "Day with the Mayor."

Submission Guidelines
Students are encouraged to answer the question, "If I were Mayor, what would I do to make Buena Park a greener City?" through either a visual (poster) or written (essay) entry.
All submissions must be original student work and directly address the contest prompt. Each student is allowed one entry. Submissions will be accepted until Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 6:00 p.m.

Essay entries submitted by Middle and High School students must be typewritten.

Exciting Prizes
Entries will be judged on creativity, originality, clarity, artistic quality, and relevance to the theme. The Mayor will select two winners from each age group (6-10, 11-14, 15-18), for a total of six winners.

Contest winners will:
  • Have their winning work displayed in the Community Center
  • Attend the State of the City event (October 2, 2024) with a guest and sit at the Mayor's tables
  • Participate in a "Day with the Mayor" (October 10, 2024), which will include meetings with the Mayor and a luncheon in the Mayor's Garden
