Manchin Announces $1.8 Million To Bolster Healthcare Services In Cabell, Braxton Counties

Washington, DC - Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $1,870,000 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to bolster health services in Cabell County and purchase two ambulances for the City of Sutton. These federal awards are three of the Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) requests Senator Manchin secured on behalf of West Virginia through the Fiscal Year 2024 funding bill.

"The funding announced today will help strengthen healthcare services throughout Cabell County as well as purchase two new ambulances to serve Braxton County," said Senator Manchin. "These investments are great news and I look forward to seeing their positive impacts for years to come. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue advocating for resources to ensure every West Virginian has access to quality, affordable health services."

The Senate Appropriations Committee allows members of Congress to submit CDS requests, which provides an opportunity for state and local governments, non-profits, and other public entities to receive targeted funding for projects that bolster their communities and directly support West Virginians. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Manchin works to ensure taxpayer dollars are allocated to priorities that benefit all West Virginians, boost economic growth and support the needs of communities across the Mountain State while remaining fiscally responsible.

Individual awards listed below:

• $1,000,000 - Valley Health Systems, Huntington
  • This funding will support connecting community members with healthcare services in Cabell County.
• $470,000 - FaithHealth Appalachia, Huntington
  • This funding will support expanding the UniteUs West Virginia Program, a coordinated care network consisting of healthcare, government, nonprofit and other organizations that use the UniteUs software to securely identify healthcare needs within communities.

• $400,000 - City of Sutton

This investment will go toward purchasing two new ambulances to serve Braxton County.
