Jasper County Siren Protocol Change Effective July 21

Jasper County EMA is implementing an important update to the siren protocol to better align with the National Weather Service's (NWS) Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA). Starting July 21, sirens will be activated based on the following criteria:

  • Tornado warnings
  • Hail 2.75" or larger
  • Winds of 80+ MPH
  • Responder/Spotter request

Please note that sirens are designed for outdoor notification only. When you hear the sirens, immediately seek shelter and tune into local media for further information and instructions.

This update will help ensure timely and accurate notifications during severe weather events and resolve any confusion about why sirens are sounding.

Stay informed, stay safe, and thank you for your cooperation as we implement these improvements to better protect our community.
