The City of Davenport is proud to announce a new initiative to honor the men and women who serve in the United States Armed Forces, both past and present.
The Veterans Tribute Banner Program allows people to sponsor a banner featuring a veteran or active-duty service member, including their name, photo, and branch of service. The banners will be displayed on light posts on the path along the Davenport riverfront stretching from the area near Veterans Memorial Park to the Centennial Bridge. For the first year, the program will be limited to 50 banners.
"The City of Davenport wants to show its appreciation to both service members and their families," said Davenport Mayor Mike Matson. "These banners are a tribute to their service and sacrifice."
Sponsorship of each 18"x 36" banner costs $200, including the design, printing, and installation. A portion of the costs will be donated to the Friends of Veterans Memorial Park.
"As a Vietnam Veteran myself, I'm all for every opportunity that recognizes and honors veterans in a personalized way," said Bill Churchill, President of the Friends of Veterans Memorial Park Committee. "These banners will enhance and expand the overall experience of those visiting the park."
The City will start accepting applications for banner sponsorships starting on November 18, 2024. The applications will be reviewed on a first come, first served basis. The banners will be displayed from Memorial Day 2025 through Veterans Day 2025. Additional eligibility information and the application link are posted on the
Veterans Tribute Banner page of the City of Davenport website.
