Texas Lutheran University proudly sponsored four outstanding student leaders to attend the 2024 ¡Adelante! Leadership Institute at the HACU (Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities) 38th Annual Conference in Colorado from October 31 to November 4. Representing TLU and the BUENOS: Title V Grant program, BUENOS Student Advisory Board members Alissa Kennedy, Benicio Ruiz, Cynthia Salazar, and Matthew DeLeon participated in this prestigious event.
The ¡Adelante! Leadership Institute is a three-day symposium designed to develop the career and leadership skills of undergraduate students. With over 800 attendees from across the U.S. and Puerto Rico, the conference offered a dynamic mix of presentations, workshops, luncheons, and networking opportunities. Students engaged with recruiters, exhibitors, and potential employers while exploring career, internship, research, and educational opportunities in various sectors.
The experience proved transformative for TLU's students. Cynthia Salazar, a standout participant, received a job offer from the Fairfax County School District in Virginia upon graduation, highlighting the conference's potential to open doors for career advancement. All four students expressed gratitude for the opportunity, with one reflecting, "This experience was life changing."
Beyond professional development, the students built meaningful connections with peers from universities nationwide, fostering friendships and expanding their horizons. The BUENOS: Title V Grant program's support not only enabled these students to grow as leaders but also demonstrated TLU's commitment to providing transformative educational and professional experiences.
This memorable conference exemplifies the value of opportunities that empower students to dream big, make meaningful connections, and take significant steps toward their future success.
