Amendment of Shire of Moora Local Planning Scheme No 4 (LPS 4)
The Shire of Moora has undertaken consultation with developers planning the construction of renewable energy projects in the Shire. At this time, these projects only relate to wind farms although the emergence of new technologies is expected to introduce more renewable technology as the expansion of the renewable energy sector continues to gain momentum across Australia. In preparation for this, the Shire of Moora is preparing to embrace renewable energy technologies, including wind turbines, new transmission and storage infrastructure and emerging technologies which are intended to help achieve the state's net-zero emissions targets.
To ensure the transition is coordinated, benefits our community, preserves our agricultural estate and protects our local environment, the Shire has drafted a new Land Use Policy. The draft policy will update the Shire of Moora Local Planning Scheme No 4 (LPS 4) by providing policy, guidelines and requirements for the development, approval, and regulation of renewable energy projects within the Shire of Moora. The objective of the new policy is to maximise the benefits to our community, safeguard the interests and well-being of our residents, and preserve our region's agricultural productivity.
The considered and successful integration of renewable energy infrastructure will bring significant advantages to the Shire. It will deliver economic growth, job creation, and enhanced environmental sustainability. It is also crucial that the developers of these projects engage with our community and provide appropriate compensation and benefits to both the landholders and the broader community.
You are invited to review the Land Use Policy document and provide your written feedback during the public consultation period which will close at 5.00pm on Thursday, 19 September 2024. Your input is vital to ensure the policy reflects the needs and aspirations of our community.
