UPDATE - LSP Investigating Delhi Police Department Officer-Involved Shooting

Louisiana State Police investigators continue the investigation into the August 11, 2024, Delhi Police Department officer-involved shooting that occurred on LA Hwy 17 in Delhi. The incident claimed the life of 47-year-old Rodrick Edmond of Delhi.

The preliminary investigation revealed that shortly after 10:00 p.m. on August 11, 2024, Officers with the Delhi Police Department came into contact with Edmond as he was operating a vehicle suspiciously in their police department parking lot. Officers approached him and advised him to stop. He refused and fled in the vehicle. A pursuit ensued until Edmond stopped on LA Hwy 17. Edmond exited the vehicle with a knife. An altercation ensued, and Officers discharged their firearms striking Edmond.

Despite attempting to render first aid, Edmond succumbed to injuries received at the scene. This is an active investigation, and further information will be released when it becomes available.

Initial Release 8/12/2024:

Richland Parish - On August 11, 2024, shortly before 11:00 p.m., Detectives with the Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division were requested by Delhi Police Department to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred in the 7200 block of Highway 17 in Delhi. Investigators are working to process the scene and gather further information.

One subject was pronounced deceased on the scene. No Officers were harmed during the incident. This is an active investigation, and further information will be released when it becomes available.
