Dr. Caitlin Riegel Publishes Article in The Teaching Professor

Dr. Caitlin Riegel, assistant professor in the College of Education, recently published an article titled "Leveraging Generative AI for Effective Rubric Development in Higher Education" in The Teaching Professor.

The article discusses a variety of AI-powered tools that can be used to develop rubrics and the features they offer to simplify rubric creation, provide suggestions for improvement, and ensure alignment with educational standards.

"Rubrics have been indispensable in education for providing clarity on performance expectations, consistency in grading, and detailed feedback to students," said Dr. Riegel. "Generative AI has revolutionized rubric development, offering higher education instructors new opportunities to enhance their teaching and assessment practices. As AI continues to evolve, it is crucial for instructors to explore these tools, leveraging their potential to improve student learning outcomes."

Dr. Riegel currently serves as president of the International Society for Educational Planning and is the East Regional representative on the board of directors for the Association for Independent Liberal Arts Colleges for Teacher Education. She serves as a guest editor for the AILACTE Journal and on the review board for the Journal of Research on Technology in Education, Educational Planning Journal, and the AILACTE Journal.

Dr. Riegel earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in education, and her PH.D. in leadership and policy from Niagara University.
