Lee County DOT is currently experiencing issues with the traffic signal at Estero Boulevard and Crescent Street since Hurricane Milton. The signal cabinet was flooded by storm surge. They did what they could to get the signal running, but the components are not working properly. The entire signal cabinet is going to require replacement in order to address the issues. Lee County DOT is also evaluating ways to elevate the signal cabinet in a permanent repair.
Lee County DOT had a preliminary call this morning with FDOT in regards to a process to replace the signal cabinet under eligibility for FHWA reimbursement. They wanted them to get the signal operational under temporary conditions until they are able to bless the repairs. In order to achieve this, it is necessary to eliminate the left turn phase off Estero Boulevard to go onto Crescent Street. Thier team bagged the signal head today, and left turn vehicles will have to yield to right turning traffic until we can get the signal cabinet authorized for replacement.
Our hopes are that this process will not take long, but they will be monitoring traffic flows and address any issues that may come up.
